I always paddle with my upper body ,and head, covered. I’ve had too many precancerous spots burned off my head and a carcinoma cut off my chest.
No matter how attractive one is, it isn’t worth it.

@Rookie my apologies! Going to go find some hot sauce for the foot I just jammed in my mouth … it’s a bit bland.
Nothing to apologize for. Most user names here aren’t gender specific. Now, if I met you personally and you called me a “Mr.,” I might be offended. Or buy you a white cane.
@Grayhawk I killed this the first time it showed up in a rush to judgement. It seemed odd etc. But the bottom line is I was having a challenged day and was wrong. I apologized and we are good now. So it is up again in the spirit intended, to provide information on canoes that are still around in the used market but specs are long gone.
IMO, in addition to the lack of safety gear, the presentation is horrifically sexist. But it is what Dolphin Products put in the catalog in the mid-60’s. And I bet they weren’t the only ones if we start digging up 50 year old sports catalogs.
And like someone above, you don’t need it to be 1965. Several years ago a few of us ended up dubbing a spot on Lake George Naked Guy Island.
Celia… I bought a lot of cars and other things back then that had pretty girls draped over them in the ads.
Also hired models just to hang around our products at trade shows.
Looks like it is still working for NASCAR.
Gotta find some of my old Harley calendars…

If that would happen in person, I couldn’t blame you if you hit me with a cane.
On the gender thing - when I am in practical clothing I not infrequently get called sir from someone taking a quick glance. My hair is quite short, and I look lousy in women’s hats but traditional guys’ hats work well for me. When they take a closer look the apology comes, but I am fine with being confusing.
As to the draped women thing, I seem to recall ads for skis or ski resorts from that era in which some young thing was wearing a bathing suit or very short shorts at a ski run in the Rockies on a sunny spring day. It wasn’t just warm weather activities.
Schuylkill there is a Dolphin canoe around here… It is tethered to a dock and sitting on the bottom of the still river its dock is on… Each year its filled with more and more algae… I wonder how much weight it has in it aside from the weight of the canoe! Clearly its not loved…
Interesting to me (not that I want one) that these have been turning up on CL pretty regularly over the last couple years…

Probably doesn’t mean anything, since canoes in general have been more common on the used market here. Might be simply because all the cool people suddenly want to move to here and then switch to kayaks.

That one is actually quite pretty!

This type of advertising are still going on. While searching for a canoe cart, I found this one. Guy, fully clothed. Gal, not so much:

Sad
I’ve seen a few up close and generally like the appearance, even though I wouldn’t want to car top one or paddle one on a windy day.
I bought one a couple of years ago and refinished it, complete with logo.
It has cypress gunnels now. It is a heavy one but it sure does turn heads.
Beautiful work.
I missed this thread 1st time around.
These days, the dolphins I paddle with are below the surface, 37 years ago it was:
.- - -
summer of '83
1st watercraft I owned (my 1st season in Minnesota) was a Dolphin Princess
weighed a ton (around 70#)
only kept a season
replaced with Wenonah Advantage at less the 1/2 the weight and a tad faster

I found this group while searching for info/advertising on the Dolphin canoe manufactured in Wabasha, MN. My family bought one new back in the early 70s and we spent many great days on Lake Pepin just up river from Wabasha and I’m in the process of rebuilding it for this summer. What sold my parents & brothers on the Dolphin were two reasons: One it would not compleletly sink due to the decks were filled with styrofoam and it was manufactured locally. It was very stable on the open water & waves of Lake Pepin.
I’m interested in this/ or any other Dolphin ad, logo, ect. that anyone would have available.
thanks
OH!!! I must be getting old. I didn’t realize there were people in those kayaks.
Hello,
I just purchased a Canoe and I am looking for more information about it. I am not sure if this is made by the same company but the logo says Dolphin. Its quite unique I can not find anything on the net like it. It is perfect for this beginner with small children. Would appreciate any Insights that you all may have. Thanks.
Hi.
I love your curvy Dolphin Canoe! I too have a Dolphin Product. It’s the 50 Quart Multipurpose Storage Bin that Clamps On Your Canoe. They go together. They used to be located and made in Wabasha, Minn. 55981 ~ U.S.A.
It’s listed here for sale. It would look great in your canoe! Below is the link to my listing.
