We’ll be based in Lubec, ME for several weeks this summer (late June-late July), and have good-sounding guides to quiet water canoe trips in the area. For example, Scammon Pond near Eastbrook is on our list, based on what we’ve read. But nothing like feedback from folks with local insights! We’d value any thoughts on day trips to try!
Lubec is WAAAY down east! Looks fantastic! I’ve paddled a little on the lakes in the Donnell Public Lands, near Ellsworth (my daughter lives down that way), including a first overnighter with my grandson. Several nice lakes there, but that’s 90 minutes from Lubec. That’s all I got!
Yes - it is wonderfully remote - this is a 3rd time return trip for us, but the first with extended time enough for paddling. Lucky daughter near Ellsworth!
Indeed, I love it up there, even in winter! Will be back up in August with canoe and kayak on board!
Check out the orange river water trail. It is quiet water paddling. About the Trail – The Orange River Water Trail
The only part of it I paddled was orange lake. Peaceful and had it to ourselves.
Thank you for the suggestion, and the great link!
That’s one of the options that an Appalachian Trail Club guide mentioned as well, so onto our short list it goes! Much looking forward to leaving steamy FL for cooler paddles for a few weeks.
