Yup. Idalia is forming and heading your way. Progressive movement is expected so she won’t have a chance to linger and develop beyond a cat 1. Hope you are right that cat 1 is not biggie for you all down there.

Yep, except now it is expected to strengthen to a Cat 3! A bit worried about the surge here in Tampa bay. If the track wiggles a little east (as these storms tend to do) we could be in big trouble. 4-7 feet of surge expected including a very large astronomical tide on Wednesday. The marina can handle 9-10 feet so we might be cutting it close. Finishing up boat prep today and will decide tomorrow morning if I will stay at my parents’ place or head over to the SE part of the state.
Good luck!

A tropical low SE of Hurricane Franklin just got named, Jose. Also, another possible system popped off the west coast of Africa.

No major problems here in Tampa Bay - some coastal flooding in the flood prone areas. We ended up with about 4 feet of surge in St Pete which was on the low end of the predictions (4-7 feet). A bit higher in Tampa as it funnels up the bay. There was a mandatory evacuation for Zone A which includes all of the barrier islands (and the marina and where I work). I stayed at my parents’ house which is high and dry at 64’ elevation.
I had heard from my marina neighbors that my boat was fine yesterday morning but I went down to check on it yesterday afternoon anyway (I really needed to get out of the house!!). No issues besides a few drips down below. Now I get to start putting everything back together and bringing all of my food/clothes back on board. I’ll leave a few things storm ready since we are nowhere near the end of the season.
Not sure if I’ll paddle at the coast this weekend or stick to the spring fed rivers inland - will need to wait a couple of days and see what the debris reports are along the shore. Coast Guard still wants everyone off the water for another day or so.
That video made the rounds on social media amongst my sailing friends accompanied by much horror Poor boats…
