we ARE on the same page. Eric calls a closed face draw what I call a pry or a c-stroke. Open face makes the boat 'draw' towards the blade and closed face makes the boat spin momentum slow by prying between the hull and the water. this action of the closed blade happens on the backface.
like I said- symantics.
