Explorer vs Appilacian

I’m starting to think about a replacement for my well worn Explorer.

I use it mainly for poling and sailing and hope to do a bit of solo tripping as well.

I like the stability and dryness of the Explorer. I’d like something that’s a bit more efficient on the flats and I wouldn’t mind a little more manuverability.

I’m considering an Old Town Appilacian.

Anybody paddled/poled both and care to compare them?

Any other boats I should be thinking of?

Thanks,

Tommy

less efficient
If I recall from the one time I saw one in the past the Old town Appilation has more rocker and is less efficient that the MR Explorer. The Old town will turn faster and is better for white water I think.

For your uses I’d stick with the explorer or look at the Old Town Penobscot

Bell NorthStar?

Northstar Hmmm
Generally folks prefer symetrical boats for poling so they can reverse without spinning the boat.

But I tend to stay put and turn the boat so maybe something like that would work? That or maybe one of the Swifts?

Hmmm…
