I know I’ve brought these guys up before and they haven’t worked worked for everyone but I’m gonna keep throwing them out there as i don’t think these come up as alternative rack systems that allow you to retain the functionality of your soft top.
I have the solid bars (non click in) and just picked up the kayak basket. My yakima jaylows didn’t fit on the square bars from SMS sadly. I borrowed a friends j hooks by Amazon for a weekend and they fit the bars and worked well. Only downside is the rear cross bar is positioned just behind the the speaker bar and you can’t tighten the rear hook all the way. So solution is you move the racks towards the center of the jeep. It works but not convenient to lift your yak to the middle of the jeep.
The kayak basket has a side notch to assist with loading that works pretty damn good actually. Has a rod/paddlle holder attachment that also works really well also. Spoke with the managaer, George and he mentioned they’re working on ab awning attachment as well.
I would say if your contemplating this system if you have the cash I’d spring for the click in stuff. Wayyy more convenient. At least for the basket specifically. 4 clamps hold the basket down so fiddling with the hardware pointing down towards the jeep. I have a 2 piece sunshade installed so i was making it harder for myself. Next time i will loosen the sunshade. If you don’t have one it’ll be easy! (Just not convenient threading 8 bolts with a washer, lock washer, and nut. )
Very versatile in positioning as well. There’s basically an outer and inner channel but also a middle channel for clamp location. So for me i had it slid all the way driver and used the driver side and mid channel. You could even hang the basket over the side of the car a little bit as well.
Looking through the photos i have currently for some reason i didn’t take any of just the rack, only in use today. Will add those tmrw.
Also i got no incentive to do this, bought it all albeit during sales lol. And I’m close enough to go pick up and save on shipping.
Hopefully this helps someone!
