Not probably what you’re thinking when you hear failure to launch. The car is packed- 2 long ww kayaks, a raft, and all the river and camping gear squeezed into the subaru forester. My buddy texts “give me a call”. It turn outs he is canceling the trip. No worries…seneca rocks wv this weekend (potomac watershed), maybe sparkleberry in sc, bachanon river in wv, and then to mi (sea kayak symposium) so I can learn to paddle that ocean kayak! NV and NM will still be there. Important thing is just to get boating again!
Sounds like you have maximal optionality. Even more so now with a sea kayak!
I am actually looking forward to camping for a week next to lake. Bringing the Kodiak (glamping) tent, fishing rods and a canoe no less. (I am “stretching” my paddling horizons with a canoe…).

Give me a heads up for Sparkleberry. We can explore some other areas. I would enjoy meeting the two fellows you kayaked there with last time.
Why did he have to cancel, not woman problems?
My buddy had a sick dog that needed care, vet bills and he had a chance to work (self employed videographer). Like I said before, I try not to take things to personally when it doesn’t work out. The important thing is to move on and keep myself paddling. The Truckee River at spring flows wasn’t something I was willing to do solo. A phone call to my bro in NM to tell him I’m a no show, and I updated to “canceled” for my ghostriver daytrip t on a west Tennessee paddling club Facebook page. I had no firm commitments for shuttling and paddling in tn . Now i’m pivoting to a new trip that is likely to be a series of shorter trips a bit closer to home.
Yeah, you said you did videography and had friends in the business, hope everything works out and you don’t miss any time.
People cancel trips. It is frustrating. Some are scared.
A friend of 40 years named Dave called me some years ago and wanted to go on a canoe trip. We had been on some before like the North Platte in Wyoming. I put together a week long trip in Oregon. People came from out of state and rented boats, some were from Oregon and some from Nevada. We ended up with 8, my largest crew on a major trip. My friend that started the ball rolling cancelled at the last minute.
On the last night of the trip, we called Dave during Italian Night. We kidded him about the great trip that he did not make. “Dave’s Not Here” became the joke of the week. I wrote it on the canvas of my wood canoe amidships. It is still the name of the OT Guide 18.
