Finally got the wife out kayaking

Our 15 year wedding anniversary was Saturday and we were going to spend the day in downtown Fort Worth, TX (where we met and not far from where we currently live). I’m an avid kayaker and she actually suggested it may be fun to kayak the Trinity River which almost runs through downtown. So of course I jumped on that like a hot grenade! Weather was perfect with just barely a breeze but enough to keep the bugs away, temp was low 70’s and we had the river all to ourselves for the whole 4 hour evening paddle. There was a concert going on at the Panther Island Pavilion (which was our launch spot) but they hadn’t started when we left but were in full swing at 9pm when we got back. It was Shaq’s All-Star Bass Festival so that was a little different. lol. She’s hooked now and we spent the evening on the couch last night watching YouTube Texas river, lake and coastal kayak and kayak camping videos. Here’s to another amazing 15 years!

and that last pic was of the stage but wasn’t very clear, almost looks like it’s just engulfed in flames but there were so many lasers and lights and pyrotechnics I guess this is what it looked like to my camera. lol

There is just something special about being on the water in a kayak. Then add the night and the anniversary, well how could she not fall for our common addiction! Congratulations on 15, well done! This month I’m staring at 52!! :flushed:

We are at 54 and she’s never been in a kayak but she approves their purchase I suspect because it gets me out of the house.

Next step is to get your wife to believe that your hand-me-down kayaks are perfect for her, so that way you can upgrade.

I’m one step ahead. I’m going to convince her she needs a composite kayak and then when she finds it too tippy for her, I’ll swap her for my poly.

My experience is getting wife a good kayak so she can easily keep up and/or pass you. Then upgrade. They catch on so don’t rely on “too tippy”.

You’re going about this all wrong. Get her the “tippy” composite kayak. She’s smaller than you with a lower center of gravity so she’ll be able to handle it better than you. Next thing you know she’ll be teaching you to roll

Or let her pick her own kayak.
