find out the year a kayak was made

I am purchasing a old Town Loon 120 It does not have a hatch. I am just curious what year it could be.

HIN #
You can find out the year on the Hull Identification Number which will be on the starboard stern of the kayak. The year is indicated by that last two numbers of the HIN.



The HIN will look something like this XXX1234X908.



908 in this example is Sept. 2008.

that is incorrect. X908 means a 2008 model of the boat, built, at least ordered to be built, in month X of 2009. You won’t see that. You might see X809 because the model year changes before the calendar year.
