I got out yesterday for my first trip of 2019. I usually paddle on January 1st at one of the many New Year’s Day trips, but this year family obligations and a bad cold kept me off the water. Yesterday I got out with Jonathan for a trip on the Wood River in southern RI. We paddled a pretty, 7-mile section though the Arcadia Management Area. Forecast was for rain, but most of it fell before and after our trip. River was at a great level and temperatures were in the mid-40’s. Nice way to start the year.
thanks for the share, I bookmarked the pdf. Rhode Island is one many states I need to paddle in, before I can say I have paddled in all 50. Is the upper wood runnable all year or seasonal/rain dependent ?

Tony - let me know when you get up here, and we’ll make sure you get on something good. The Wood River can be run all year, but gets boney in the summer. There are sections of the near-by Pawcatuck River that are just as nice, and hold water better.
The best resource for paddling in RI (and southeastern MA) is the Rhode Island Blueways site:
