Went out a couple days ago in Myrtle Beach. Actually, the whole intent of the paddle was to go out and retrieve an anchor and buoy that I had left offshore for the entire winter. I was surprised to see that the buoy was still out there actually…so I threw some gear and bait in my surf kayak and paddled out.
On the way out I trolled a spoon behind me and was surprised to catch a small bluefish right off the bat. I continued to troll for awhile, but the winds were absolutely ferocious that day and they were blowing directly offshore so I wasn’t real keen on straying too far from the beach. I went out and tied up to my well weathered buoy and did some bottom fishing. I was surprised to catch another bluefish on a piece of squid on the bottom. I’ve never caught one fishing like that…usually just flounder, sharks, and redfish…

Photo of my anchor spot. The water was gorgeous, quite clear and light blue…but the wind was terrible. I was wearing a spring suit and was still feeling pretty chilled. The air temperature was about 68 degrees.

The line leading down from my buoy to the small mushroom anchor. It was incredible how much marine growth had started on it in the 5 months since I was last there. I brought the rope and anchor in and threw the rope in the garbage. The mushroom anchor had some marine growth on it, but it scrubbed right off…

Fun stuff…can’t wait to get back…

Beautiful photos
I especially like the one with the baby blue fish showing the M. Beach beach front. The few times I was in M. Beach, it was February and ugly. Did enjoy walking the beach, but it reminded me of Galveston…the water was flat and grey.
…
I’m embarrassed about the size of that fish… /grin/ I was looking on the 'net at other photos of blues and man…there are some massive ones out there! Sure would like to hook into one of those.
What was amazing was that I didn’t catch a single shark. Normally when I’m fishing on the bottom like that I get mostly Dogfish sharks. Not a one this time…must not be in the area…

Water may not be warm enough for
the sharks. They haven’t really moved into our part of the Gulf this year either.
