Floatplanes on Low's Lake in ADK

The NYS DEC is now taking public comment on a proposal for a permit system to allow floatplanes to fly in & out of Low’s Lake in the Adirondacks.

The proposal postpones a ban on floatplanes that was to go into effect at the beginning of this year. If enacted, it would remain in effect for 10 years.

Under the proposal, commercial floatplane flights between May & November by all operators wouild be restricted to a combined 30 trips per calendar month.

Fridays & Saturdays would be “no fly” days and no floatplanes would be allowed to land or take-off before 2pm Sunday.

The complete proposal can be found at

Public comment on the proposal will be accepted until June 30, 2008 and should be sent to
