Gainesville a great town…try
paddling the Itchnetucknee in Ft. White, and the Santa Fe River. You can put in at Poe Springs County Park in High Springs.

Two lakes in south G’ville
For boat rental, check with Brasington’s: https://www.brasingtons.com/

There are two lakes in G’ville that have easy launch sites (with picnic tables and restrooms), lots of bird life and, of course (it’s Gainesville), gators: Newnan’s Lake (large lake, east of town, access from Hwy 20 at Earl P. Powers Park (I think that’s the name), no fee) and Lake Wauberg (small lake, south of town, access from 441 inside Paynes Prarie State Park, park entrance fee applies). We paddled today at Lake Wauberg and saw four gators (including a baby and big momma), several bald eagles, lots of cormorants, anhingas, herons, egrets, and some funny white birds (terns?) that seemed to be surfing on the buoys. Or, if you want to paddle Ichetucknee River (40 minutes north of town), you can rent at the river from: http://www.ichetuckneecanoeandcabins.net/

No Rental
Last time I talked to the folks at Braisingtons they were no longer renting kayaks. I would check just to be sure. KK
