Garmin GPSMAP76CSX vs. Colorado 400c

Best handheld kayakk gps?

Go 76CSX
I would go with the 76CSX right now. The Colorado line has had a lot of problems, and is also missing a lot of features that the 76 units have. Garmin is slowly whipping the Colorado into shape and it may well be an outstanding unit after a few more firmware releases, but as it stands now, the 76CSX is the better unit.

Chief advantage of the Colorado 400T is that it comes with US Topo installed. You’ll have to shell out another 70 bucks for it if you get the 76.

It’s a good one
I lost mine in 20 feet of water yesterday. That won’t happen again. I’ll get a new one (the same) next week.

Thanks NM

Andy, how’d you lose it?
It’s supposed to float.

Thanks Andy!
It does float.

I lost it when I took the spill on the surf ski. I think my foot knocked it loose from the velcro. I was a good distance from shore when it happened, it was windy and waves were kicking up. It was enough hanging on to the boat and paddle. It took me 3 attempts to get back on the ski. I then needed to padddle into the wind.

There was no way I was going to find it. I'll have to go back soon and see if I can find it.

It was only my second time on the ski.

That’s why mine is in a bag.
Sorry for lose I don’t trust 400 dollar plus stuff without a protective bag.
