Georgia Paddling

Seeking a good paddling experience (float and Class I-II max.)within one hour drive from Atlanta. Will need outfitter for kayaks. Planning trip April 1st.

Any suggestions?

Flint River
I remember the Flint River was a good day trip. The home to the Flint River Redeyed Shoal Bass. That was almost 30 years ago, and that’s about all I remember…

I was riding with a bunch of college buddies, and can’t remember the put in or take out…

You might want to try applachian outfitters in dahlonghea, ga. http://www.canoegeorgia.com/

or Broad River Outfitters http://www.broadriveroutpost.com/. They both provide rent rec kayaks and canoes on class I/II rivers.

There lots of fun class I/II rivers just north of Atlanta so enjoy!

The lower Chestatee would be an
excellent introduction, via Appalachian Outfitters. The Broad, entered at Broad River Outpost, is a relatively challenging class 2, but there are quieter waters between rapids to pick up the pieces. B.R.O. puts beginners in recreational kayaks, and the boats have proven “smart” enough to get customers down with very few mishaps.

April 1 is a bit early for the best laurel (both rivers have plenty) but dogwood and azalea should be out.
