Cans are not bear proof
To a bear, a car is a large can with good stuff inside. There are hundreds (thousands?) of documented incidents of bears breaking into cars in places like Yosemite. Bears can smell the contents of cans and cans are no obstacle to them.
one solution…
to the bears (oh my!) is to tie the food into a bag hanging from a tree.
