Good all around tandem for flatwater and moving water

Hi all,
I am looking at 2 used tandem canoes. A Mad River Explorer, Kevlar, 16.5’ and a Wenonah Spirit II Kevlar Flexcore.

I’m wondering which would be a better all around canoe for the type of paddling I’m looking to do. Mostly flatwater tripping in the ADK region, but don’t want to rule out occasional rivers and larger water that could have larger waves/ rough conditions. Maybe a potential NFCT trip down the line.
I want something that is stable in wind/ weather and tracks well. Not too concerned about speed, but it would help on larger flatwater.

Which of these two canoes would you recommend?
Thanks

I own an MRC Kevlar Explorer 16 and have paddled it both tandem and solo in some big water in the Everglades. Also paddled it in Okefenokee and Sparkleberry swamps and several small and large rivers. I really like it. I know the Wenonah Spirit 2 is also a good canoe but have no experience with one.

Both are good “all-arounders”, and will accomplish what you are looking to do. The Explorer will be a little more maneuverable and carry a load better, and the Spirit II will be a little more efficient. To answer your question, I’d recommend both of them, I’d also recommend a test paddle, and see which one you’re more comfortable with. I don’t know if the Spirit II you’re looking at has tractor seats, some of them do, and some people don’t like them, but everyone’s taste and style are different.
