Some pics of my new to me necky looksha that I picked up for $300 from a farmer who also gave me a dozen eggs…
I have 2 friends who own Lookshas (two 4s and one 5) and I have paddled them all. In fact I have one of the 4s for sale right now. All have been very good kayaks and handle very well, are fast, and turn well when edged. They also hold a lot of gear so for multi-day trips they are wonderful.
I bet you’ll like it
Looks nice, I didn’t know you did that type of paddling, just swamps, rivers and rapids.
What is the Modular?
The modular is the pakayak. Real handy for long RV trips and up to now my fastest flat water boat .
You mean it is serviceable? It looked like a collectors item collecting dust. I thought pak-yak was a foldable.
Thar looks like an older boat, I did not know Modulars were out that long.
New boat day is always a good day!
I do not know if you realize this or not, but the whole sequence you laid out in the post on Tariffs that you rightfully said would take 7 years or so and people want instant gratification, is playing out right before our eyes in a very accelerated fashion exactly as you described it including the uplifting of developing economies and the isolation of China with many others willing to take their place. Very Accurate…
Thank you mjac.
Facts…
I have paddled one they are fast and make a good touring sea kayak, and that was a great deal.
That was a really good deal. I paid $600 for a Looksha of similar vintage for my brother 10 years ago. He’s gotten a lot of use out of it. The vintage Neckys (and Daggers) are really rugged boats if you can handle the weight.
well now I just have to learn how to use it. I signed up for the western michigan sea kayak symposium.
How much money?
more than the $300 boat!
Jesus, what is it with these instructional fees? That is why I asked, I was curious.
I don’t begrudge the fee structure for the symposium. I didn’t sign up in time for the class that leads to certification but I’m sure I will learn plenty. I will approach it from a growth mindset. Instructors have to take and pay for classes to become certified to teach. They also have to regularly take and retake first aid and cpr. They have to recertify with abbreviated classes every few years from an instructor trainer. I haven’t met anybody who really does it for the money. Informal and formal settings can both be beneficial. I’ve got more bad habits than most and am not the easiest student to work with.
