Great South Bay near Cupsogue Beach

I will be on the Bay for the month of July. I paddle my QCC700x on flat water 3 to 5 times a week. I have an 11-year-old son who is just beginning to kayak. He has been using a Perception Eclipse 16. He has been sitting too low in the boat but I am planning to fix that.

My question is how difficult are the conditions in the Bay just East of the Cupsogue inlet? Will it be dangerous to take my son out there? I am a pretty strong paddler but he is not.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Some info
Moriches Bay conditions will depend greatly on the wind direction. Storm winds generally come from the east - if you have easterly winds I would definitely not take him here.

Boat traffic in the channel will be very heavy and you should avoid.

Generally speaking - this is not a good place for a young, inexperienced paddler. I’d pick a lake or the Upper Peconic River until he builds some strong paddling skills.

This website gives you quite a bit of info on Eastern LI launch sites.
