Help me in North Carolina please

I’m from NY. We will be in Wendell , North Carolina early summer, 2019. I’m looking for somewhere close by that I can go paddling. Overnight trip would be GRAND!! Day trip is ok. Moving water … Class 1 and 2 would be fun, but I will settle on a scenic lake or whatever I can get too!! Any info would be appreciated, thanks. These little places can be interesting. But they often attract people that know the local area with more challenge. Ask fellow kayakers, volunteers, rangers etc about local area opportunities.

I think you’ll be very close to Jordan Lake or Lake Jordan. Huge lake with campgrounds and Bald Eagles. Check it out.

Falls Lake (Falls Lake State Park) is a large reservoir with several access points between Durham and Raleigh, Little River and Neuse River for moving water. The Little River is a small river and dependent on water flow. The Neuse river is controlled by the outlet of Falls Lake and always (almost) at a level that can be paddled.

I have paddled both Lake Jordan and Falls Lake. Lots of Osprey and Eagles in the area.

There are a couple of options for whitewater depending on river flows. The Haw River that feeds Jordan Lake, west of Raleigh, The Capefear River from Lillington to Erwin, southeast of Raleigh. The Eno River in Durham. For whitewater options contact the folks at Carolina Canoe Club. There are numerous flatwater options, for flatwater contact Carolina Kayak Club or the meetup group Simply Kayaking. These are the most active groups in the area that I know of. You might also reach out to Frog Hollow outfitters in Durham or Paddle Creek in Raleigh.

ok I live in the triangle. Lakes are great around here. I recommend Jordan and Falls. RLS gave you good info. I belong to two of those groups. left you contact in messages. Think that works.
