help! surprise lake was a surprise!

Would someone please let me know if there is a lake in union county to kayak…but not surprise lake! Too small and too much undergrowth! Just purchased a permit for union county lakes and it seems the best two places, echo lake and Warinanco do not honor the permit!

I have searched the internet and I am beginning to think I will not get my kayak in water ever again!

I am a beginner and prefer lakes/flatwater.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

State?
New Jersey??

oops, yes New JERSEY

two things
1. You have have a permit to paddle for your county? Is this in addition to boat registration?

2. There are lakes that don’t honor it, so what do they honor?

I’m sorry that you live under a paddling tyranny.

Look beyond Union County
Round Valley, Merril Creek, Spruce Run, Split Rock, Monksville, to name a few…plenty of nice lakes around.

Paddling on Echo Lake or Warinanco has NEVER crossed my mind.

Other Ideas
Farrington Lake (Msex) Manasquan Reservoir (Monmouth) The raritan river has nice sections to paddle

Mercer County too
I’ll echo all 5 of Andy’s suggestions, haven’t tried Farrington Lake yet, but it’s on the list. I especially like Spruce Run and Split Rock, although the latter has a tough put-in.

In Mercer County, Lake Carnegie in Princeton is nice if not too windy. The Delaware and Raritan Canal is flatwater paradise. I like the section between Griggstown Causeway and Blackwell’s Mills, and the part that parallels Lake Carnegie - put in at Turning Basin Park.

Permits only in those…
county empoundments only. I wouldn’t really call those he mentioned lakes. They have at leaast 2 feet of goose poop on the bottom.
