Hickory ridge primitive camping @ red rock lake ,in Iowa .very nice place. Me and my wife paddle in 1.6 miles from the boat ramp@whitebreast campground.the hill going up to the camping area is not real steep but is sort of long. We where the only ones there ,and heavy rain and thunder storms in forecast probably didn’t help .yes it did storm very well. On 08/06/2016 they are replacing the porta potty with cement vaulted toilet set up.they went through and cleared out all the under brush ,opened it up made it a lot nicer .did I mention it’s FREE to camp there .you can paddle in or hike in .beautiful wilderness camping area no water or electricity real camping

There are many paddle in places like that in the Everglades national Park and various rivers through out the US

Sounds great. When I drive cross-country, I look for places along the way to spend a day or two paddling or hiking. Hickory Ridge sounds like it would be good for that.
