Just completed the weekend at Cedar Key, Fl on the Hidden Coast Paddle Adventure. The three day event centers around paddling the area here in Levy county. There were oppen water paddles, marsh paddles, back bay (calm) paddles and some river paddles. There were seminars by ACA instructors and talks by local UF Marine Biologists, and FWC biologist about their activities in the local area and aqua culture. Cedar Key is prime clam farming areas. The Saturday night dinner was capped by presentations by Mary Mangiapia, 14th person to paddle the Florida CT, (see Florida Paddle Trails Association) . and “One Eyed Jake” on the Everglades Challenge(see Water Tribe) . Sunday brunch was served on Atsena Otie island. A short paddle from City beach, but interesting. Winds were 10 to 15 with some 3 to 4 ft waves thrown in for excitement. Some good surfing by the lighter sea kayaks. Scary times for the few sit on tops. Of the thirty or so boats making the trip only two required assistance on the return…and another two opted for the suppy boat shuttle.
