How long have great whites been visiting the waters of Mount Desert Island

The sharktivity app has a report of a washed up seal with half moon bites on Great Cranberry Island.

But most importantly there are certified satellite pings of a great white shark going along the coast of Nova Scotia.

I purposely go to the area to photograph at least 3 different seal colonies (from a safe distance)

The Great White’s range covers the Gulf of Maine and the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Newfoundland. The only person killed so far by a Great White Shark in Maine was Julie Dimperio Holowach in 2020. Over time, I expect the population to migrate North and there will be more human attacks.

Great White’s have been visiting that area for probably as long as Great White’s and Mount Desert Island have existed in its present form.
