We just got into kayaking in the Portland, OR area and were disappointed on our first outing to find Vancouver Lake closed due to a blue-green algae bloom. I have searched the web for some site which would post lake/river conditions but found nothing beyond the USGS gobbledegook. Does anyone know of a reliable, updated site for which lakes are accessible/available for paddling?
Nothing universal but
In a lot of areas there will be one or two fishing sites that’ll have water temps, conditions, launch issues on smaller bodies of water that the natinal stuff doesn’t track.
Local Lakes
are going to be tough to find info on the web. Your best bet is to call the Parks and Recreation Department in the area where you plan to paddle. They should have the current info.
And, I’d also select an alternate site JIC (just in case).
