I cut them into 6" pieces and store them in plastic grocery bags. Never had one get tangled.

Put my 16 ft kayak in the j-hooks and forgot to strap it in. Drove off onto Rt 219 highway at 55 mph. OOOOPS!!!! Fortunately the kayak didn't budge an inch, I realized my mistake, we pulled over, and strapped the boat in properly.
