ICOM M1V VHF Battery Replacement

The ICOM M1V submersible VHF had been a reliable radio for my touring need for almost 20 years. It just died. More accurately, the battery died. When I leave the radio in the charger station, the radio works as well as ever. When I take it off the charger, the radio battery goes dead in a matter of minutes.

Unfortunately, doesn’t seem to be a replacement battery available in the USA that I can locate. However, BullDog battery in Ohio offers a rebuild of this specific battery (BP-215) for $80. Has anyone tried a rebuilt?

Seems like a waste to get rid of a perfectly operating radio because of a lack of a battery, although I went ahead and ordered a new ICOM submersible VHF. I could use the old ICOM as a backup. (I actually had a Standard Horizon VHF as a backup, but it died after a little over a year – after the warranty period.)

I replaced my ICOM battery 3 years ago. It was about 12 years old, I don’t remember the model though and it’s packed in the car for a trip to the beach. I have had drill batteries rebuilt and seemed to last. I had a similar experience with a Standard Horizon.

So I assume your house has not burn down from an exploding Li-ion battery recharge. :+1:

Ok, will give a rebuilt a go.
