Thank you to all who helped. Impex Kayak
Thanks for the folks who said it was just a photo issue, I appreciate the support.
In the end the web is a valued tool for doing research. However nothing can replace talking with the people at the manufacture, dealers, and above all seeing and paddling the kayak.
Thanks

It would be a real shame…
...if you didn't produce the OI with an ocean cockpit. The keyhole ruins the character of the boat for people who prefer small cockpits. If one understands the function of an ocean cockpit, it becomes obvious that it simply cannot be duplicated with ANY keyhole design. Even the best thigh bracing cannot replace the full width bracing that an ocean cockpit provides.
I understand the need to reach the broadest market possible in order to recoup your tooling costs, but it would be sad to see the Impex version of the OI become yet another case of marketing winning out over function.
How about selling the hull without a deck, so people could build and install a cedar strip deck per Jay Babina's original design? This is not unprecedented in the industry:

Similar kits based on the Seaward Endeavor hull used to be available.
BTW, I've had the chance to paddle the current version of the OI and I must say that you guys did a great job of producing Jay's design in fiberglass.
Impex Kayaks- Thanks
Hello all,
Thanks to Marshal and his wife Dorothy for the help. Without people like them Impex Kayaks would never be where we are today.
PS- She is a great instructer.

Great idea !
I am assuming that the decsion was made at the manufacturing plant in Canada and not by Danny and his team. Every member of the Impex gang in the states is a serious paddler with bigtime skills and just might agree with option . I am still wondering how Jay got them to do end pours on OI. I am a huge Impex fan but do wish they would do end pours atleast on request for an additional fee. The hull idea is great proving they could ship them reasonably without damage.
Outer Island Price
Just to be clear the MSRP on the Outer Island is not $3000.00. 2005 price is $2675.00. I think I see the point though, it is expensive to not do the research, I agree. However I am just saying that it is just a photo illusion. You can’t expect everything to be perfect, although we do our best.
Thanks
Danny

Not $3000 but $2700
Not dirt cheap but I appreciate the difference.
