Does this sound right? I followed this formula to narrow down my choices of inflatable
fishing kayaks.
(A) - What size kayak do I need for my weight? The right size kayak for your weight is
one with a maximum capacity rating that’s about 125 pounds more than your body weight.
(B) - Another rule of thumb is to find out the manufacturer’s maximum capacity rating and
reduce it by about 30-35%.
For (A) I did this:
260lbs (my weight) + 125lbs = 385lbs + 50 lbs (gear est) = 435lbs
So I would need a kayak rated minimum of 435lbs??
For (B) I made a list of all the inflatable fishing kayaks I was considering. I used their
formula:
Kayak Max lbs Capacity x.30 = ###, then Kayak Max lbs Capacity - ### = True Max?
Kayak Max lbs Capacity x.35 = ###, then Kayak Max lbs Capacity - ### = True Max?
So as long as True Max is greater than my capacity, the kayak(s) would be good?
Here are the kayaks I’m considering:
Advanced Elements StraitEdge Angler PRO Inflatable Kayak: Max Weight - 400lbs
Sea Eagle 350fx Fishing Explorer: Max Weight - 575lbs
Sea Eagle 385fta FastTrack™ Angler Series: Max Weight - 635lbs
