I used to carry one on a CJ
You need to be careful. I built a frame that held the boat. But when I had the boat upside down over the top it created a wind effect that put a lot of pressure on the CJ soft top. It stretched it. I’m sure it’s doable, but watch the air flow.

I use a Kargo Master Congo Cage with Yakima crossbars. Pretty cool to drive around with your canoe as the roof.
