Jerk Baits

Does anyone have any advice on using Jerk bait from a canoe/yak?

My normal conditions have 10-15 mph wind. I’m wondering if paddling into the wind and letting the wave action move the bait will work or is it better to drift with the wind and twitch the rod to entice a strike.

I’m fishing in Colorado for Trout, Wiper and Bass.

Wind
When I paddle into the wind my bait ends up behind me where I can’t see it or the strike. I get best results if I drift into an area and drop my anchor until I stop getting hits and drift some more.

Drift …
Absolutely, try to drift. That’d make a more natural presentation, I’d think. But I guess it’s more important to know what the FISH would think.
