While this does look pretty cool, it has the potential to be deadly and I think its irresponsible to be showing it on a public forum. I really don’t think this sort of activity should be encouraged. What do you think?

No matter the sport, someone will push the limit. And some will not make it. That falls under 'lessons learned '.

Agreed, but when a national publication puts a video like this out, without so much as a “don’t try this at home and please, no wagering” they are condoning questionable behavior and could cause someone who otherwise has enough sense to know better to try it. Think “Tide Pod Challenge” or the “Walmart Lick the Ice Cream” thing. I’m sure its on You Tube anyway, but why risk your brand by giving it your unspoken approval?
Personally, I’d try it if I knew for sure that there were no obstructions and I have done shorter ones, where I could see all the way through, but I wouldn’t post it on our Club Website.

Adults that take tide pod challenge are expendable.

There is a class IV whitewater run in western MA - Fall River from the Otis Reservoir to the Farmington River - that often involves running a culvert under the road. Not sure how they scout it before the fist paddler goes through, but I have never heard of any problems there. Considering the rapids that they run, the culvert is the easy part of the day.

Gallery page from American Whitewater with a couple of pictures of the culvert
