We want to do a week-long kayak trip in wilderness. We have previous paddling experience, so we really want to go out of civilization. We prefer slow-moving rivers, but lakes are also acceptable. We want it to be a lazy trip with about 4-5 hours of paddling a day. We live in Montreal (Canada), but few hours driving to the US is not a problem. What can you suggest in this area - upstate NY, Vermont, maybe a bit south to Connecticut, etc? Or some Ontario or Quebec routes?
try the Allagash Wilderness Waterway
One rather lenqthy class II+ rapid(which the Rangers will take you around by truck if you want) rest is pretty easy river(with one portage around allgash falls.) and lakes. There is a complete description of this trip in the AMC guide to Canoeing in Maine.
