I’m looking to buy wheels for transporting my kayak onto ferry. I would like them to be able to break down enough to stow them inside one of the hatches. Any suggestions??

Check eBay. There are several different types on auction there under the kayak section.
I just finished building two sets of the kayak carts designed by Chesapeak Light Craft.
If you go to www.clc.com, and click on the building tips header, then scroll down, you will find kayak carts.
You can easily build them directly from the drawing (what I did), or they sell a pre-cut kit for $59.
They do knock down to store in your boat.
