I plan on paddling the Keweenaw Watertrail this summer and would appreciate any advice, local knowledge, etc., about paddling conditions, camping sites, and points of interest.
Thanks.
Keweenaw Water Trail
A detailed map is available from the Keweenaw Tourism Council in Houghton (906-482-2388). Just ask for the Keweenaw Water Trail Map. It will tell you much of what you want to know.
Beautiful paddling all the way. Camping spots may be hard to come by in a few sections mostly due to development of private land but there is McLain State Park on the west side, Ft. Wilkins State Park in Copper Harbor and the Hancock City Park on the Portage Canal Section. The northeast tip around Keweenaw Point is mostly state land now. There are a number of other day parks spaced throughout.
Plan on a good trip.
