Lake Jocassee - In the Fall

How is Lake Jocassee in, October? Are the water falls, still ok, or are they more of a trickle? Any where to get out, and stretch the legs? We typically do Lake Fontana area, in the fall. But looking to explore new territory this year. Any place to access the Jocassee, besides Devils Fork SP? Also eyeing Bear Creek Lake and Cascade Lake. Would be in the area ~a week.

I have never been to Jocassee that the falls weren’t flowing, even when the lake is low. We have been getting lots of Rain and the lake is as high as I have ever seen it. Devils Fork is it for lake access. There is a camp ground there and one 2 miles you can paddle to across the lake. Then the Foothills trail camp ground about 8 miles paddling from Devils Fork at the Toxaway bridge.

As for places to get out for a break, not many with the lake up.
The Foothills Trail near Laural Creek Falls is one.
You can get out a couple of places on Devil’s Fork Creek if you don’t mind some bush wacking and a little mud.

Going to make plans, soon. Planning the 2nd week of October.

Heading to Jocassee, on Sunday. Will spend about 5-6 days , in Devils Fork. Planning to cook most meals, but any good restaurants in the area, or with in a reasonable drive?

Aunt Sue’s on Hwy 11 is good. Great pastrami sandwiches. Not sure if they have dinner.
The Country Steakhouse in Walhalla has the best Friend chicken ever. Cafeteria style. There is also a good Mexican restaurant there.

I hope it cools off for you.

Not worried about the heat, just hope the skeeters are not bad. We live near the wrath of Hurricane Florence. “Hummingbird" sized skeeter swarms, are the new norm. Hoping the mountains are a temporary repreive. Will check out the eats, you mentioned.

The mornings and evenings are very nice. And the skeeters haven’t been bad.

We only got 2 days on the water, at Jocassee. Then we got out of Michael’s potential path. We covered ~ 30 miles over 2 days. Saw 4 of 7 of the Waterfalls. Hope to get the other 3, in the spring. Great trip, even if it was cut short. Hope to get a salt water fix in, after Michaels gets past the Outer Banks of NC.
