Leaking In Deck Brunton Compass

Got up to Maine today and noticed condensation inside the dome of Brunto in deck compass. The internal fluid turned milky white. There is some crazing on the clear dome…much like what happens to headlight lenses.

The hull is expedition weight fiberglass and this compass replaced another the previous one which had become yellow and clouded over 10 years…
Using the same holes.

It’s still useable and I didn’t need it anyway.

I threw a Suunto clip compass in the day hatch in case I need it.

Any idea on the cause? The kayak has never been dropped on the compass. Its trailered with foam on the carrier bars–underneath and sides.

Its left out in New Hampshire winters, under a cover.
