Local Trips

I find a lot of people don't know about nice local paddles in their own backyard. What are some places you love to paddle in your area that others might enjoy.

My list: Central Florida

***Wekiva River Camping***

Camp at Indian Mound, Otter, Buck or Buffalo Tram. Buffalo and Indian closed during hunting season.

***Island 9 - Canaveral National Seashore***

We've watch the shuttle launch from this campsite. You can launch from River Breeze and park overnight or there is a smaller parking area by a restaurant called Goodrich Seafood Restaurant. You can reserve the Island 7 days before you need it. Lots of dolphin and manatee in this area. Island 9 is the best of the Island locations for camping. Private lagoon. I caught a nice Spanish Mackerel in this area.

***Little Big Econ (Econolockahatchee River)***

You can start from the bridge at 419, camp at the "BIG" bridge and finish up your trip at SR46. Total mileage is about 22 miles.

GPS Coordinates are:

Enjoy!

How are the bugs in December?
Talking about Canaveral/Mosquito Lagoon. I’ve kayak camped a lot here in Florida and love it but have yet to convince my wife and daughters that it is fun. I’m thinking Island # 9 is a very short paddle (less than 2 miles)and if they get to see dolphin and manatees, this might be a fun easy trip for them.

Goodrich Seafood Restaurant

There is a parking area next to this location and makes the milage very close to Island 9. We've had a group as large as 25 on this Island over New Years and several other long weekends. We just paddle over to the restaurant for breakfast -- that might make it worth it as well.

It is neat to wake up early morning and hear them off the backside of the Island feeding.

They can also bring floats with them and relax in the Lagoon. It's like your own private island (except for a shuttle launch -- then it's everyone's Island until the launch is over).

Have fun!
