Check if there are any meetup groups in your area. Sometimes the Sierra Club also has paddling outings.

Green Wave Forum. I found a few clubs thru the site. Plenty of good info. Seemed like nice folks. I came down for two weeks to paddle during Christmas/New Years and got good tips.

Weapons for paddlers are often
discussed on pnet. A club has short range, but it is “green” as weapons go, and need not be heavy if chosen carefully for length and balance.
