Looking for Phoenix, AZ

(Surprise, AZ actually ) intermediate kayaking.

Something within an hour to 2 hour drive

Will also need to rent a kayak, unless I can strike a deal at Cabela’s

PLEASE HELP Meeeeeee

Thanks !!

just spent 2 weeks in AZ
and we saw water in very few places…of course the Colorado River at the Grand Canyon but that’s more than a 2 hour drive from PHX.

The other place we saw wouldn’t be considered intermediate paddling, that was Roosevelt Lake and I think you could get there in 2h or less from PHX…easy paddling or not that area was beautiful…for those who dont know the area:

and from the ruins:

THANKS
Thanks…I’ll check on both areas.

The Colorado River I believe has much white water, but its worth checking on.

THANKS AGAIN

Lower Colorado
North of Yuma …

The lower colorado has zilch white water … google for kayaking lower colorado and you will find info on put ins. There are only a few tiny lakes near Phoenix. I lived in Tucson for 2 years. There are two small lakes near the mexican border but not worth the drive. The River is your best bed. Be advised power boaters use the river so you have to paddle defenisvely.

Sugauro, Canyon,Roosevelt, Tempe T. Lake
Sugauro - Jan of this year:

Canyon Lake - Monday:

(Found an inflatable - towed it back and turned it in at the marina)

We were on Tempe Town Lake yesterday - very convenient for a quick lap around the lake for exercise. The setting isn’t that nice though.

Just below Hoover - from Willow Beach to the Dam is about … 10 miles or so:

There’s also a local group on Yahoo that can offer plenty of assistance:

To your left you’ll see Places 2 Paddle
I visited each of those last August. Can’t wait to go back for good!!

Salt River
Try Morman Flat Dam to Saguaro Lake (10 miles) via the middle portion of the Salt River - just outside of Phoenix (40 min). Not sure where to rent. Check out: http://southwestpaddler.com/docs/salt5.html for more info. I am only familiar with the area from a tubing trip that was tons of fun and very scenic. I did see some kayakers playing in some of the rougher spots.

THanks everyone…
I WILL CHECK EACH ONE OF THESE SUGGESTIONS

THANKS AGAIN…

Years ago…
Many years ago a friend and I tubed down the Salt River, it was a great time. But while we were tubing her car got broken into and her purse stolen. Sad ending to a great trip. Just a bit of info for ya!

Lake Havasu
I live at Lake Havasu but it is 200 miles from Phoenix. Good weekend trip with a couple of campgrounds on the AZ side and plenty of boat in campsites. There is a free BLM kayak-canoe launch near the Bill Williams River.

Lake Havasu!!!
