Looking for the best quality backband

I bought a used boat and found that the cams on the backband were frozen white with corrosion. I will spend up to a half an hour with a wire brush, distilled vinegar, and penetrating oil, but I think the whole backband will need to replaced.

Any recommendations on who makes the back bands with the best metal?

I had to replace mine for the same reason a few years ago.
I have had good luck with Immersion Research they have a few to choose from

I will second Immersion research products. I have never worn out a ratchet system or foam backing, in years of use.

I’ve installed 2 of these in my solo canoes. They ate quite comfortable.

Snap Dragon makes a backband without metal parts. I’ve found this to be best for sea kayaking. Those ratcheted things with metal parts always end up the same for me when exposed to sea water regularly.

I second Snap Dragon. I put them in two of my boats & I’m happy with them.

I third the Snap Dragon. Simple. Clean.

You can just replace the ratchets.

I installed a Seals brand backband that is similar to the Snap Dragon and it’s performing well.

Thank you very much for all your comments!.

They look very interesting because they seem to have the same “cams” as my 15 year old Atlas Snowshoes-the cams have never failed despite unintentional abuse and they are very easy to manipulate…
