Looking to replace sea kayak with rec boat

I currently own a boreal Ellesmere Kevlar boat made in Canada. It’s more than I need for the calmer paddles I do now. Ideally I’d like a boat between 35 and 37 pounds, around 12 feet that tracks well. A narrow and low volume boat fits me best.

Someone locally is selling a used current design vision 140. Here are my questions.

  1. The inside has a honey colored pattern so I believe it is a lighter composite material but the outside looks like fiberglass. I can’t find online what the weight of this boat is. And I couldn’t find a serial number to determine the age. Any idea what its weight is?
  2. This boat doesn’t have a skeg. How well do these track without one? Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to give it a test run.
  3. The boat has been stored upside down outdoors. I didn’t see evidence of any cracks, but wondering if moisture and exposure to winter weather can compromise the material.
  4. Should I look for a smaller boat?

The new owners of Current Designs, Sanborn Canoe, show the weight as 46 lbs.

A kayak that checks your boxes but isn’t all that common is a Lincoln Quoddy light. 12’6" length, weight 29-34lbs for carbon or Kevlar, and max paddler weight of 170 lbs. Lincoln has operated out of Maine and Massachusetts, so you might have the best chance of finding one if you’re in the northeast.

Look at the Stellar Puffin. It might be what you are looking for.

Thanks. I did try paddling one of these but it was not a good fit. Too wide.

Have not heard of this one. I will do some research. Thank you.

Where are you?

I have a Vision 140 and it’s right at 45 lbs. It’s a comfy cockpit, and not huge, but may be larger than you want based on your ‘want’ list.
