Middlesex County, NJ boating

Hi. I just bought a Vermont Canoe & Kayak Tupper. I can name all kinds of places in the Adirondaks but know nothing about my own back yard. I am in the Princeton area. Any suggestions. I just ordered the book “Quiet Water Canoeing in NJ” but it has not come. Thanks.

Some of my favorites
Round Valley reservoir, Merril Creek reservoir, Split Rock, Spruce Run, Monksville or just go here…

Try Carnegie Lake
or Farrington Lake, the D&R Canal is nice in the fall, Lake Mercer is nice too, and not to far away.

Ed Gertler’s "Garden State Canoeing"
be de “bible”.

Might want ta check either de Hackensack River Canoe & Kayak Club (www.hrckc.org) or de Mohawk Canoe Club (www.mohawkcanoeclub.org) too.

Quiet Waters of NJ
Just making sure that you are talking about “Quiet Water New Jersey, 2nd: Canoe and Kayak Guide” (AMC Quiet Water Series) by Kathy Kenley. If you’re lucky, you’ll meet Kathy herself paddling those waterways.

There is also “Paddling the Jersey Pine Barrens” by Robert Parnes.

JSSKA.org has a launch site directory and some of the penn kayakers, pennkayaker.com, come over that way frequently, check the penn kayaking websites for launch sites listed by waterway.

I’ll second Girdles. I have the one for
PA and was just looking at the one for NJ at that canoe shop in Brick. It’s really good.
