Moms' Day Tiny Surf Practice

My spouse and mom/grandma extraordinaire was sleeping in for this Mothers’ Day morning. I took the opportunity to go play in 2’ wind waves before brunch.

Had thought to take the Mega Jester IC (international class) surf kayak for a try. However, couldn’t find my Mountain Surf spray skirt that I had put away somewhere when I sold my Mega Venom surf kayak 16 or 17 years ago when I took up the waveski. (Coming back around to kayaks again… LOL!!!) Anyway, had to take the waveski instead, while I wait for a new skirt to be delivered.

Waveski practice session:

Mahalo to the paddling moms out there! Hope you received your due appreciation, rest and recreation.

The NRS small white water sprayskirt came today. Wow… flashback… Now I remember what drove me crazy about the surf kayak, especially for winter sessions. Even with bare hands, on dry land, I struggled to get the NRS small WW skirt onto the Mega Jester. I now remember with my old Mega Venom, I struggled even harder to get on the Mountain Surf “bomb proof” sprayskirt (company is now gone). It was largely impossible with mitts on. So, I had to take off my mitts to put on the skirt. By the time, I get the skirt on, my hands were wet from the incoming waves and then the winter temps and wind would quickly numb my fingers. It usually took 30 minutes or more to warm my hands up in the mitts with active paddling. With the waveski, it was climb on, put the seatbelt on (with mitts on!) paddle out and surf!

Looks like the Mega Jester will be relegated to non winter surf sessions only.
