Anybody have a source for charts showing more detailed info than a regular nautical chart? I paddle western lake Erie and the Detroit River.

Charts vs Maps
NOAA charts are designed for mariners, ann therefore have more navigation info (buoys, colors of lights, flash patterns, elevation of landmarks etc) than do maps. Mariners are not interested in where roads lead, so charts have no such info.
Topographical maps fill in where charts leave off. For kayakers and canoeists topo maps often are more useful for navigation, but lack the detailed bathymetric info of teh charts.
NOAA charts are updated more often than topos, so changes in shore profile will be more up to date.
You may need both.
