As a beekeeper and construction worker I wore a white woven pith helmet for over 25 years. Is cool and light weight with a stiff brim. The all plastic last much longer, but aren’t as cool or light weight.

Yes, hardhats float. They are made of the same material as most kayaks, after all.
But do they have bulkheads?
No bulkheads, but during 35 years in the construction biz I spent a lot of time around hardhats that were stuffed with gas-filled biological airbags.
Since pith helmets keep coming up, figured I’d post a link to a hat shop that has many different styles - I used this shop many times and recommend them as reliable retailers with a good return policy. They have pith and straw. I’ve never worn pith myself (could not find one big enough), they can be soaked in water to provide ongoing cooling.

The reason I wear a Tilley, other than to be cool, is they come in a size that fits my big head.

I just can’t do a Tilley, for many reasons, but mostly because my wife’s father wore one all the time. I use a Riverz Delta, which is a pretty great paddling hat with good shade, reasonably cool, unaffected by water, floats, has some style and comes in XXL. They sure got expensive, although mine has lasted 11 years.
