Does anyone have information about the New River in West Virginia? I would like to find a portion of the river before all of the class four and class five rapids that would be a good one night trip.I need good beginning and ending locations.I will be traveling by canoe with three or four other fairly experienced canoers.
andylee’s descriptions are correct, but
the sections are McCreery to Thurmond, and Thurmond to Cunard. (And then Cunard to Fayetteville, which is the hard part.)
I’ve only done the “gorge”. You can go to americanwhitewater.org and click on river tools to see short descriptions. From what they say, the McC to Thurmond run sounds more interesting.
Consider joining American Whitewater. They are doing a hell of a job for WW paddling.
