Norfolk to Miami at the end of May.

I’m planning on kayaking through the intercostal waterways from norfolk to the Miami area. I was wondering if anyone had any suggested equipment or good information about routes and destinations along the way? Also, has anyone here done the intercostal waterways before? What is some key equipment or thoughts?

Thanks!!

No special equipment required
except what the coast guard requires.

Make sure you have a skirt, when some of those humongous power boats slow down, they put out a tremendous breaking wake.

I have paddled various portions of the ICW, and if you enjoy paddling with the procession of power boats thats fine, but I can think of a lot of other destinations that would be more enjoyable.

If you don’t have much experience, the only advice that I would give is don’t head to the shallows when you see a big boat getting close to you. What looks like just a normal wave will build up to a breaker as it gets into the shallows.
