Last Summer my buddy and I paddled from Port Hardy around the north end of Vancouver Island to Coal Harbour with a few days spent on the Brooks Peninsula. The trip report is posted here: http://3meterswell.blogspot.com

send it to places2paddle on pnet…otherwise it will be lost in the message boards in a week, whereas the trip report section will be there the next 40 years_+

One of the better trip reports I have seen. Nice job. Thanks.
Nice TR
Given the magnitude of the trip, I appreciated your integration of the mapping into the TR. It’s always hard when I read trip reports to be able to stitch togehter in my brain the locations being discussed. A map makes it so much easier, really is worth a thousand words.
Loved your description of the ensemble of characters where you ran into “the barrel.” Too strange to be made up!
Thanks for the read!

…the ensemble of characters…
Grant Bay was a trip and something so unexpected and unpleasant. After reading my report a friend from Nanaimo, who has way more miles on the BC Coast than I’ll ever have, told me that Grant Bay is considered by some to be Winter Harbour’s beach. That would make a little more sense out of what Dave and I saw. If the cast of characters already knew each other and had history their actions wouldn’t seem so random. It turns out, according to my source, that substance abuse is pretty common in the small communities that have been impacted by downturns in legacy industries like logging.
Not sure that this explains it but it helps me a bit.
Seems to me that you took a trip on the west coast a year ago, right? Can’t find the posting anymore but I would like to read it again.

2012 Trip
Good memory, I did make a trip out there a year ago. Here’s the TR: http://chipwalsh.org/Kyoquot/WAKE-Trip-0712.html
Not as nice a TR as yours. For one thing, it needs a map!

Thanks for the link, Chip!
Next year’s trip will probably take me through that area.
