It’s pouring in Boston right now, FINALLY!!! Supposed to get a bit over an inch today. Hope northern New England gets even more. Going up again next week. Would love to see a little more flow in the rivers!

We’re finally getting multiple days of on and off rain so the ground and roots can soak up the moisture before it all runs off. We really, really need this.
I finally mowed my lawn on Sunday. I left it alone for 4 or 5 weeks because it wasn’t growing but it hadn’t gone dormant either. After the fresh cut, by Tuesday most of it had turned yellow. I should have waited one more weekend. I’ve also got several drought-distressed oak trees that are being colonized by insects and need to come down before they fall on something.
Over the winter, I was thinking this year would be a good time to get a canoe and do a family trip on the Androscoggin. I guess I’m glad we didn’t get to it.
Usually I just play in the class II below the Errol, or do the class II below Pontook if I could hitch a shuttle with a group at the Pontook dam parking lot. But I’ve always wanted to float and fish the 13 Mile section below the Errol rapids but didn’t have a shuttle. I can try self shuttle now that I have Ebike. As you know, the 13 mile section may run low but it would take a catastrophic drought for that section to go dry.

Made it to the trailhead parking lot. Foliage is at or near peak.
Heard on the news that a fire ban is in effect for the White Mountains because of the extended drought… No big deal for me since I stopped doing campfires long ago. Having my breakfast before in for backcountry trout fishing.
Feeling good in the forest.
